Teatri del suono / Chaos

IT  | Concerts, installations, performances, talks.
Venue: Teatro Miela, Trieste, 3-4-September 2020

«Physics presents us a dynamic and chaotic Universe: we need to change scale and accept the disconcerting complexity of a reality that the ostensible symbolic simplicity of equations, the strenuous struggle of technology against disorder, seem to prevent us from seeing» .
Syd Reynal

Especially conceived for the “Science in the City Festival” , Teatri del suono / Chaos explores the effects of the digital technologies pervading our times and aims to critically discuss their impact on our lives. Out of the urge to discuss, on a common ground, crucial themes pertaining to the current scientific discourse, but also to the arts and other domains of knowledge, the project employs the metaphor of theatre – a term which at the beginning of the modern age indicated a real or imaginary place where knowledge could be staged – to demonstrate the profound mutual influence between the spaces of knowledge – particularly scientific – and those of artistic performance. Through an immersive journey – including concerts, interactive installations, performances and talks during two consecutive evenings – the audience has the opportunity to experience a fascinating interdisciplinary programme, focused on contemporary culture. The project invites to a non-conflictual perception of the relationship between science and art, liberating the potential of their interaction, engaging differences as opportunities for growth, through a dialogue between equally fundamental parts of human knowledge.
The project is the result of the collaboration between the ensemble cantierezero – a collective of musicians active in the contemporary scene – the theoretical physicist and philosopher specialized in the interaction of art and science Syd Reynal and the electronic engineer Claudio Weidmann, both associate professors and researchers at ETIS (Equipe Traitement de l’Information et Systèmes) research laboratory, France.
Starting from the concepts of signal, information and code, musicians and scientists have developed itineraries and resources influenced by the dynamics of the interaction between individual and digital information, enabling the connection of different languages and disciplines. The project also involves the Austrian composer Katharina Klement and the video artist Conny Zenk – with a new world première – the composer and researcher Agostino Di Scipio and the duo NIMIKRY who will explore new musical horizons with their augmented instruments and highly original inventions. The talks will be moderated by the philosopher Giovanni Leghissa, who pays particular attention to interdisciplinarity and the relationship between science and humanities in his studies. The project also enjoys the presence of the graphic artists Mario Alberti and Romeo Toffanetti who have realized original works for the event, and will present a selection of artwork taken from their stories for the renowned Italian sci-fi comic book series Nathan Never.

The project will be partially performing in Gradisca d’Isonzo, Teatro Comunale,  in collaboration with In\visible cities Festival
